Magrath Scholarships

ATA Valedictorian Award

$500 award from the local Alberta Teachers Association is given to the top academic student. Principal Sommerfeldt calculates official grades. No application necessary.

MES Legacy Award

Scholarship awarded to student volunteer with 100+ hours working within Magrath Elementary School. $500 sponsored by MES Staff. Recipient winner chosen through written application. 

Mark Doig Caring for the Disabled Award

Awarded to a student who has been kind to classmates with special needs and who plans to pursue education in a field that includes helping people with special needs. $400 Sponsored by Doig Family.

Sarah Strate Memorial Award

Sarah loved helping others and lived her life that way. Award recipient will be pursuing nursing, social work, massage therapy - including any type of health-related profession. $250 sponsored by the Strate Family. Chosen through written application. 

Robert and Maureen Rasmussen Award

Awards available to multiple students. Application is based on representation of student experience growing up in Magrath and attending Magrath High School. $500 - $1000. Student application required. 

MHS Outside the Box Award

Given to a Student who has shown innovative thinking not only at school but in their personal pursuits and hobbies. $125. Determined by MHS Staff. 

Principal's Award

Given to a graduating student who excelled both in academics as well as extracurricular activities. (Athletics, Fine Arts etc.) $200. Determined by MHS Administration. 

Frank Tricsli: Science/ Agriculture Scholarship

Awarded to a student(s) who have achieved excellence in the areas of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or Agriculture. $1000. Selected by MHS Administration. 

Kind Like Kaden Award

Kaden Jones graduated from MHS in 2015. Sadly, he passed away in January 2024 due to struggles with mental health. To honor his legacy of kindness, this scholarship was created to recognize a student who has always shown kindness to their fellow students as well as others in the community. $250. Teacher nominated. 

MHS Yearbook Award

Scholarship given to a graduating student(s) who have contributed to the creation and production of the yearbook. $100. 

Blair & Margaret Sabey Memorial Scholarship

Bair and Margaret Sabey lived and worked in Magrath their entire lives. They were passionate supporters of the MHS Community and Athletics. This scholarship is awarded to a student athlete who has demonstrated academic achievement, strong leadership skills, service in the community and sportsmanship. $1000.
